The key to the product’s desire to enter the target market, and enjoy competitiveness is to obtain the certification mark of the international authoritative certification body.
The LED Lights you buy from XSY Lighting are not just for lighting, they are a safe choice. This blog post is a must-read for anyone wanting to know whether our products are safe and have been evaluated as safe by a nationally recognized testing laboratory (NRTL). The two certifications that our products prove to be safe are UL and ETL safety listing. So what exactly are UL and ETL? Is ETL the same as UL? Let’s find out.
What is UL?
Underwriters Laboratories (UL) is a Nationally Recognized Testing Laboratory (NRTL) accredited by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA). UL is an underwriters laboratory that sets standards for testing from materials and components to finished products. The finished product is UL certified, and the parts basically meet the UL certification.
What does UL listed mean? It uses scientific testing methods to determine the extent to which various materials, devices, products, equipment, buildings, etc. are hazardous or harmful to life and property; to determine, prepare, and issue appropriate standards and to help reduce and prevent life. The property suffered loss of information, and at the same time launched a fact-finding business.

For different types of UL services, the UL Mark can be divided into three categories, the LISTED listing mark, the Classified classification mark, and the Recognize part certification mark. UL’s services are based not only on the US UL standard but also on the Canadian Standard (cUL). Thus, the UL Mark is also divided into UL and cUL products and both. The “us” at the bottom right of the UL Mark indicates that it applies to the United States, the “c” at the bottom left indicates that it applies to Canada, and the “us” and “c” for both countries.
What is ETL?
What does etl stand for? ETL certification is the abbreviation of Electrical Testing Laboratories(ETL). The presence of the ETL mark on the product indicates that the product has been tested by the Nationally Recognized Testing Laboratory (NRTL) to meet the relevant national standards after meeting the minimum requirements for the generally recognized US and Canadian product safety standards. For distributors, retailers and consumers, they have purchased third-party tested and certified products.
What does ETL mean? Like UL, ETL can test and issue ETL certification marks according to UL standards or US national standards. It can also test and issue composite certification marks according to UL standards or US national standards or Canadian standards.
What does it mean to display the ETL listing mark on the product?
In short, the ETL listed trademark indicates that the product has been tested by ITS ETL SEMKO, meets recognized national standards, and meets the minimum requirements for sales or distribution. For distributors, retailers and customers, the ETL mark indicates that they are purchasing compatible products that have been tested and certified by third-party organizations.

The “us” at the bottom right means that it applies to the United States, the “c” at the bottom left means that it applies to Canada, and the “us” and “c” for both countries.
Which countries accept the ETL standard ?
ETL Marking is a recognized product compliance certificate in the United States and Canada. However, it must be noted that through the scope of global certification, ITS ETL SEMKO is authorized to provide the product safety signs required for sale and distribution in other countries.
What is the difference between UL listing and ETL listing?
Although there is no absolute difference between the UL listed and the ETL list, all standards of ETL refer to UL, which is more authoritative than ETL.
Since ETL lighting tests products in accordance with previously published UL safety standards, the products listed as ETL are fully compliant with the standards listed as UL listed or UL approved products.
Both UL and ETL represent products that pass the Nationally Recognized Testing Laboratory (NRTL) test, meet the appropriate safety standards, and also represent the manufacturer’s agreement to receive rigorous periodic inspections to ensure consistent product quality. UL and ETL certification have the same North American market access effectiveness.
What is UL certification and what is ETL certification? Now you know why we need to care about these two security certifications.
